Class Reunions
Every five years, as summertime nears,
An announcement arrives in the mail,
A reunion is planned; it'll be really grand;
Make plans to attend without fail.
I'll never forget the first time we met;
We tried so hard to impress.
We drove fancy cars, smoked big cigars,
And wore our most elegant dress.
It was quite an affair; the whole class was there.
It was held at a fancy hotel.
We wined, and we dined, and we acted refined,
And everyone thought it was swell.
The men all conversed about who had been first
To achieve great fortune and fame.
Meanwhile, their spouses described their fine houses
And how beautiful their children became.
The homecoming queen, who once had been lean,
Now weighed in at one-ninety-six.
The jocks who were there had all lost their hair,
And the cheerleaders could no longer do kicks.
No one had heard about the class nerd
Who'd guided a spacecraft to the moon;
Or poor little Jane, who's always been plain;
She married a shipping tycoon.
The boy we'd decreed "most apt to succeed"
Was serving ten years in the pen,
While the one voted "least" now was a priest;
Just shows you can be wrong now and then.
They awarded a prize to one of the guys
Who seemed to have aged the least.
Another was given to the grad who had driven
The farthest to attend the feast.
They took a class picture, a curious mixture
Of beehives, crew cuts and wide ties.
Tall, short, or skinny, the style was the mini;
You never saw so many thighs.
At our next get-together, no one cared whether
They impressed their classmates or not.
The mood was informal, a whole lot more normal;
By this time we'd all gone to pot.
It was held out-of-doors, at the lake shores;
We ate hamburgers, coleslaw, and beans.
Then most of us lay around in the shade,
In our comfortable T-shirts and jeans.
By the fortieth year, it was abundantly clear,
We were definitely over the hill.
Those who weren't dead had to crawl out of bed,
And be home in time for their pill.
And now I can't wait as they've set the date;
Our 50th is coming, I'm told.
It should be a ball, they've rented a hall
At the Shady Rest Home for the old.
Repairs have been made on my old hearing aid;
My pacemaker's been turned up on high.
My wheelchair is oiled, and my teeth have been boiled;
And I've bought a new wig and glass eye.
I'm feeling quite hearty; I'm ready to party,
I'll dance until dawn's early light.
It'll be lots of fun; and I hope at least one
Other person can make it that night.

UPDATE FROM 4/15/2008!
A few of the classmates (Eleanor, Carolyn, Sherry, Shirley, Mary and me) met at Mary Hatties' last week to finalize some plans for the reunion.
The menu for Friday night (6:00 p.m.) at the Curtis' home will be "heavy hors d'oeuvres". (how's that for interesting?)
The local classmates plan to prepare dishes for that night.......however, for those that will be traveling to Camden and would like to chip in - we need items, such as: ice, drinks, chips, dip, bread, etc.
If any of you classmates would like to 'buddy up' with others and order party trays - that would be great. Kroger and Brookshires' have a deli and prepare trays by placing an order early the same day.
What is 'left over' from Friday night - we will take out to River Woods Saturday to munch on for lunch. (we affectionately call this 'potpourri').
Peggy is working on our name tags and Eddie says the response for the 'autobiographies' has been very good.
Did I mention we have 69 signed up to attend? (Round numbers are nice - can we get ONE more?)
None of our high school teachers have committed as yet..........there is still hope.
The proprietor of River Woods says mosquitos should be no problem....they will spray and have citronella candles on the premises.
Photographer will be ready to shoot at 5:00 Saturday. Dinner is catered at 6:00 p.m.

Well, things are coming together quickly now.
We have 2 more classmates added that I know of........RoyP and WayneM.
We also have 4 volunteers so far to entertain us... Bill Hobbs (Mary Short's hubby), Bob Lewis, Eddie Inzer and Melvin..........so there is plenty of room for more........just speak up.
Tomorrow at 2:00 several local classmates are meeting at MaryH. house to discuss more details........will keep you posted..........If you have suggestions - let us know..............Jo

Heads up, Classmates!! 'Our day' is fast approaching........and it is time to shift gears.
Eddie was in town recently and he suggested another meeting might be beneficial to conclude
plans for OUR day. So, he will be back to Camden in March and we will set the date for that
time - will let you know.
One thing he requested is that you send your 'autobiography' info to him very soon. He needs it
by March 31 to allow enough time to compile a brochure. So clear the cobwebs, scratch the
noggin and tell us whatcha been doing for the last 50 years..........send it to:

Yesterday (Feb.12) Shirley had received about $160 from Classmates that have responded. She
would like to have all money in by April 1........this is the only way we can estimate the

Have you got any memorabilia from high school?? Gather it up and bring it with you.......we
plan a 'display' table with all to reminisce and say, 'Wow, you still have that after 50
years?'. You might put it in a zip-lock bag for easy handling and identification when you
leave. (whisper) - Shirley still has her cheerleading outfit.
